09 Oct KC Crew founder turns love of rec sports into booming business
When Luke Wade moved to Kansas City about five years ago he had no idea that getting involved in recreational sports to make some friends would soon turn him into an entrepreneur.
Wade is an Iraq war veteran who grew up in the Cape Girardeau area north of the Missouri bootheel. After graduating from Southeast Missouri State University, he moved to Kansas City to be near his brother. He didn’t know anyone else in the area, so he joined a beach volleyball league in Shawnee and a softball league in Independence. He soon learned there was a sports league in downtown Kansas City, but heard that everyone was complaining about it being poorly run. He decided to take it over and run it himself.
That was the birth of KC Crew, a multisport recreation juggernaut that counted 6,200 people among its participants in 2016. This year, they’re on pace to top 10,000.Read More full articles from Kansas City Business Journal
